Morning, folks. Peter Dive here, reporting from the doorstep of the Rhiw Goch Inn.
It’s Sunday, the 7th of June, 2026, and the sun is actually doing its job for once. If you’re peering out of your tent right now in Snowdonia, you’re probably seeing that soft morning mist rolling off the Trawsfynydd lake. It’s glorious, it’s quiet, and, if my knees are anything to go by, it’s perfect weather for a hike.
I’ve been scouring the forums lately (mostly Reddit and Findaquestion) because people seem to have a lot of questions about how to actually do a Snowdon holiday without ending up cold, wet, or lost. Since I spend most of my time here at Rhiw Goch Inn making sure our guests are comfortable, I figured I’d give you the "3-minute briefing" you need before you zip up your boots.
The Reddit Roundup: Your Snowdonia Questions Answered
I see these questions pop up every single summer. Here’s the "straight-from-the-innkeeper" version:
1. "Is wild camping allowed in Snowdonia?"
The short answer? Not really. Technically, you need the landowner's permission. Instead of waking up to a grumpy farmer (or a fine), why not just park up at our campsite in Snowdonia? We’ve got 5 electric pitches at LL41 4UY and plenty of space for tents. You get the same rugged views of the Rhinogydd mountains but with the added luxury of not being chased off by a sheepdog at 4 AM.
2. "How bad are the midges in June?"
Look, it’s Wales. We have water, we have grass, we have midges. But because Rhiw Goch sits a bit higher up, we usually get a decent breeze that keeps the little buggers at bay. Pro tip: Avon Skin So Soft. Don't ask me why it works; it just does.
3. "Where’s the best base for Coed y Brenin?"
If you’re here for the mountain biking, you’re literally five minutes away from Coed y Brenin Forest Park. We get bikers here all the time who stay in The Lodge House because it has underfloor heating, absolute heaven for aching muscles after tackling the 'Tarw Du' trail.

Why Stay at Rhiw Goch Inn? (Aside from my charming company)
When we took over the Inn, we knew we had something special. Yes, the main 16th-century building is still undergoing its massive restoration (it’s a labor of love, trust me), but the accommodation we’ve finished is top-tier.
- The Lodge House: This is our flagship. Two stories, king-size bed, and a luxury cast iron bath that I’ve been told is "life-changing." It’s perfect for a family holiday in Wales or a group of four friends who want to feel like royalty after a day on the hills.
- The Hideaway: Our cozy one-bedroom apartment. If you’re a couple looking for those "stunning sunset views" people keep posting on Instagram, this is the spot. You can see the Rhinogydd range right from your window.
- The Campsite: Simple, effective, and beautiful. We’re positioned right on the A470, which means you can get to the base of Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) in about 20-30 minutes, but you’re far enough away to avoid the Llanberis crowds.

Peter’s Local Lowdown: Sunday 7th June Edition
If you’re staying with us today at Rhiw Goch, Trawsfynydd, Blaenau Ffestiniog, LL41 4UY, here’s what I’d do:
- Morning Hike: Avoid the main Snowdon paths today. They'll be packed. Instead, head toward the Rhinogydd. It’s rugged, it’s quiet, and the views back toward the Inn are spectacular.
- Afternoon Spin: Hit Coed y Brenin. Even if you’re not a hardcore biker, the walking trails there are lush and shaded: perfect if the June sun gets a bit too intense.
- Evening Wind-down: Head back to the site, crack open a local ale, and watch the sunset. There’s a reason this place was a 12th-century lookout: you can see everything.
The Future of Rhiw Goch
For those who’ve been following our journey since the fire in 2018, the Grade 2 listed Inn restoration is moving along. Soon, we’ll have the tavern back with a games room and even more self-contained apartments. Every time you stay in the Snowdonia Lodge or pitch a tent, you’re helping us bring this piece of Welsh history back to life.

Quick Checklist for your Holiday Wales:
- Postcode for SatNav: LL41 4UY
- Bookings: www.rhiwgochinn.co.uk
- Must-bring: Waterproofs (even if it's sunny), a camera for the sunsets, and your sense of adventure.
Whether you're looking for a Snowdon holiday that involves a tent and the stars or a luxury bath and a king-size bed, we’ve got you covered.
I’m off to check the progress on the stone walls: stay safe out there, and don't forget to tag us in your photos! #RhiwGochInn #SnowdoniaCamping #VisitWales #CoedYBrenin #MountainBikingWales
