It’s Monday, the 29th of June, and if you’re anything like me, you’re currently staring out of the window at the Snowdonia skyline and wondering why on earth you’re still sitting at a desk. The sun is hanging high over the Rhinogydd mountains, the air is that perfect kind of Welsh "mild", about 18°C with a breeze that smells like gorse and adventure, and the trails are calling.
I’m Peter Dive, and I spend most of my days here at the Rhiw Goch Inn doing one of two things: either obsessing over the 16th-century stonework of our historic inn restoration or helping guests decide where they should lay their heads for the night.

It’s a fair question. Some people want to be "at one with nature" (usually until the first midge bites), and others want a king-size bed and underfloor heating (my personal preference after a long day of site work). Since we offer both high-end holiday accommodation and a cracking little campsite here in Bronaber, I figured I’d give you my completely honest, slightly biased, but very practical take on how to choose.

The Case for Camping: The Purist’s Dream
Now, don't get me wrong. I’ve spent many a night under canvas. There is something truly magical about waking up at 5:00 AM, unzipping your tent, and seeing the mist sitting low over the Trawsfynydd lake.

There’s a camaraderie on a campsite that you just don't get anywhere else. You’ll find hikers swapping tips on the best routes up Cadair Idris or mountain bikers cleaning their rigs after a day at Coed y Brenin. It’s the ultimate base for outdoor enthusiasts who just need a place to crash between adventures.
Answering the "Reddit FAQ" for Snowdonia Summer 2026
I’ve seen these questions pop up a dozen times this week, so let’s clear them up:
- "Can I wild camp on Snowdon?"
Short answer: No. Officially, wild camping isn't permitted in Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park without landowner permission. People do it, but the National Park rangers aren't fans, and it's definitely not allowed in car parks or on the roadside near Bronaber. Stick to an official site like ours, you get a toilet, a shower, and you won't get a polite but firm wake-up call at 4:00 AM. - "Is a lodge worth the extra money in July?"
If you value sleep and dry clothes, yes. July is warm (19°C-ish), but the humidity can make a tent feel like a sauna by 7:00 AM. In a lodge, you control the climate. - "Where is the best base for hiking and biking?"
Well, I’m biased, but being in Bronaber (LL41 4UY) puts you exactly between the high peaks of the north and the incredible biking trails to the south. You’re 15 minutes from Coed y Brenin and a short drive to the Snowdon paths.
