Honestly? They aren't as bad as Scotland. In Snowdonia, they pop out at dawn and dusk if it’s a still, humid day. My tip: Bring some 'Smidge' or a bit of Avon Skin So Soft. If you’re in a lodge, you just shut the door. If you’re camping, keep your mesh zipped up!
"What if it rains for three days straight?"
Welcome to Wales! If you’re in a lodge, it’s a "cozy reading day." If you’re camping, it’s a "trip to the local pub day." We are currently restoring the old 16th-century inn to its former glory, so soon you’ll have a tavern right on site. For now, there are some great spots in Trawsfynydd and nearby Blaenau Ffestiniog to hide out.
"Is it easy to get to Snowdon from Bronaber?"
Absolutely. We’re positioned perfectly on the A470. You can be at the base of the Snowdon walks in about 20-30 minutes, but you get to come back to the peace and quiet of our site rather than the tourist madness of Llanberis.
Peter's Personal Picks: Things to do within 1 Hour
Whether you're camping or lodged up, you need a plan. Here’s what I recommend right now:
- Coed y Brenin Forest Park (10 mins away): The UK's first mountain bike center. Even if you don't ride, the walking trails are world-class.
- Llyn Trawsfynydd (5 mins away): Great for a morning walk or some fishing. The views of the power station against the mountains are weirdly beautiful: like a sci-fi movie set in the 12th century.
- Harlech Castle & Beach (25 mins away): A massive UNESCO castle and a beach with sand that goes on forever. Perfect for a July afternoon.
- Zip World Llechwedd (20 mins away): If you want to fly over a slate quarry or jump on underground trampolines, this is the place.
The Verdict: Which should you choose?
If you want my honest, Peter Dive opinion: Book the Lodge if you want to be sure you'll have a good time regardless of the weather. It takes the stress out of a Holiday Wales trip.
However, if you’re a sunset chaser and you love the ritual of the morning brew outside your tent, our campsite is one of the most beautiful spots in the National Park.
