There’s something about a Saturday morning in July in Snowdonia that just hits different. I’m sitting here at the Rhiw Goch Inn with a steaming mug of coffee, watching the mist roll off the Rhinogydd mountains. It’s the 11th of July, 2026, and if you aren’t here right now, you’re missing out on a proper Welsh summer stunner.
The air is warm, the trails are calling, and honestly, the only thing better than the view from our doorstep in Bronaber is the cold pint waiting for me at the end of the day. The Local Lowdown: Pubs & Grub Within a Stone's Throw
After a day of hiking or mountain biking at Coed y Brenin Forest Park (which is practically our backyard), you’re going to be hungry. And thirsty. Here’s where I usually head when I’m not tinkering with the renovations on our 16th-century Inn.
1. The Cross Foxes, Trawsfynydd (LL41 4TY)
Distance: 5 minutes away
This is our absolute local. It’s right by Llyn Trawsfynydd, and there’s nothing quite like sitting outside with a view of the lake as the sun starts to dip. It’s a classic Welsh pub, unpretentious, friendly, and they do a cracking Sunday roast. If you’ve spent the day fishing on the lake, this is the perfect spot to swap stories about "the one that got away."
2. Prysor Garage, Trawsfynydd (LL41 4UB)
Distance: 4 minutes away
Don’t let the name fool you. It’s a garage, yes, but it’s also a bit of a local legend for food. It’s the kind of place that serves up proper, honest British fare that fills a hole. If you’re heading out early for a walk up Snowdon, swing by here for a breakfast that’ll keep you powered up until dinner.
3. The Eagle Inn, Llanuwchllyn (LL23 7TW)
Distance: 15-20 minutes away
I love this place. It’s like stepping back in time. You’ll hear Welsh being spoken at the bar, the fire is usually crackling (even in July sometimes, because, well, Wales), and the atmosphere is pure gold. It’s a great spot for a more traditional "sundowner" experience after exploring the Bala area.
4. Not Only Spaghetti, Trawsfynydd (LL41 4UP)
Distance: 5 minutes away
If you’re craving something a bit different, this little Italian-leaning gem is fantastic. It’s consistently rated as one of the best spots near us here at Rhiw Goch Inn. Perfect for a family dinner when you’ve had your fill of pub chips (if that’s even possible).
Family Fun: Keeping the Troops Entertained
July is peak season for family adventures. Whether you’re staying in our Lodge House with the kids or pitching a tent on our campsite, there’s no shortage of things to do within an hour’s drive of LL41 4UY.
1. Zip World Fforest, Betws-y-Coed (LL24 0HX)
Distance: 30 minutes away
This is the one the kids always ask for. The Fforest Coaster is a total scream: it’s like a bobsled on rails through the trees. It’s high-energy, it’s safe, and it’s set in some of the most beautiful woodland in Snowdonia. Pro tip: Book ahead for July, as it fills up fast!
2. GreenWood Family Park, Y Felinheli (LL56 4QN)
Distance: 50 minutes away
Regularly voted the best family attraction in North Wales, and for good reason. It’s eco-friendly (the roller coaster is people-powered!) and has a really magical, "Enchanted Forest" vibe. It’s a bit further out, but totally worth the drive for a full day of activities.
3. Snowdon Mountain Railway, Llanberis (LL55 4TY)
Distance: 45 minutes away
If you want the views from the top of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) without the five-hour hike, this is your best bet. It’s an iconic experience. In July, the summit can be busy, but the train ride itself is something the kids will never forget.
4. Rhiw Goch Inn Play Area
Distance: 0 minutes away!
Sometimes you just want to kick back while the kids burn off that last bit of energy. We’ve got a great wooden play area right here on-site. You can grab a drink, find a bench, and watch the sunset over the Rhinogydd mountains while the little ones conquer the slide.
What's On This Weekend? (July 11-12, 2026)
If you’re reading this on Saturday morning, the Snowdonia Trail Marathon Eryri is currently kicking off in Llanberis! It’s a massive event for the region. Even if you’re not running (I’m certainly not: I’m more of a "stroll to the pub" kind of guy), the event village is a great place to soak up the atmosphere. There’s live music, food stalls, and the Dolbadarn Dash: a fun run for the kids that supports the local Mountain Rescue Team.
It’s a busy weekend in the park, so if you’re looking for a bit more peace and quiet, I’d suggest heading south towards Aberdyfi (about 45 minutes from us). They often have local beach festivals this time of year, and there’s nothing like fish and chips on the quay to end a summer Saturday.
