Morning, folks. Peter Dive here.
It’s Friday, the 12th of June, 2026, and I’ve just stepped out onto the gravel at Rhiw Goch Inn with a steaming mug of coffee. The air in Bronaber this morning is that perfect kind of crisp, the sort that tells you it’s going to be a scorcher by midday but reminds you why you bothered waking up at 6 AM in the first place.
Looking out over the Rhinogydd mountains from our site, I can see the mist lifting off Trawsfynydd Lake. It’s one of those views that makes you realise why we’re working so hard to restore this 16th-century beauty. If you’re reading this from a cubicle or a traffic jam, I’m sorry. Truly. But the good news? You could be here next weekend.
As the "man on the ground" here in LL41 4UY, I spend a lot of time lurking on Reddit and travel forums to see what you lot are actually worried about. Usually, it’s "Where can I park my van without getting a ticket?" or "Is Snowdon actually worth the 3 AM start?"
Today, I’m breaking down the ultimate summer camping strategy for North Wales, specifically for those who want the views without the "conga line" of tourists.
1. The "Reddit Reality Check": Camping in Snowdonia
I see the same questions popping up on r/Snowdonia every week. Let’s tackle the big ones.
"Can I just wild camp anywhere?"
Short answer: No. Long answer: Definitely no. Most of the National Park is privately owned farmland. Trust me, the local farmers have a sixth sense for a stray tent, and you don’t want to meet a grumpy Welsh sheepdog at 2 AM. Stick to official sites like our Rhiw Goch Inn campsite. You get the same (often better) views, plus a flat pitch, electric hookups, and you won’t get moved along by a ranger.
"How do I get the best mountain views without hiking for 6 hours?"
You stay with us. I’m not even being biased (okay, maybe a little). Our campsite is positioned specifically to catch the sunset over the Rhinogydd range. While everyone else is fighting for a spot at Pen-y-Pass, you can be sitting in a camping chair with a cold beer watching the sky turn purple right from your pitch in Trawsfynydd.
2. Choosing Your Base: Tents vs. Luxury
Summer in Wales is glorious, but let’s be real, it’s still Wales. One minute it’s Barbados, the next you’re re-enacting a scene from Twister.
If you’re a purist, our campsite has 5 electric pitches and plenty of space for tents. It’s rugged, it’s authentic, and it’s got that "middle of nowhere" feel while being conveniently located just off the A470.
But, if you’re like me and your back prefers a king-size bed over a half-inflated air mattress, we’ve got the Lodge House and The Hideaway.
- The Lodge House: Think underfloor heating, luxury cast iron baths, and enough space for the whole family.
- The Hideaway: Perfect for couples. It’s got a private deck that’s basically a front-row seat to the best sunsets in the UK.
Check out the availability for your Snowdonia Lodge stay at www.rhiwgochinn.co.uk.
3. Peter’s Pro-Tips for Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) Walks
Everyone wants to climb the big one. If you’re staying at Bronaber, you’re in a prime spot. You’re about 45 minutes from the main trailheads, but here’s how to do it like a local:
- Skip the Llanberis Path: Unless you like walking in a queue.
- Try the Rhyd Ddu Path: It’s a shorter drive from us (via Porthmadog/Beddgelert). It’s quieter, the views over Llyn Cwellyn are staggering, and it feels like a proper mountain adventure.
- The "Late Shift": In June, the sun doesn’t set until nearly 10 PM. If the weather is stable, head up in the late afternoon. You’ll pass the crowds coming down, and you might even get the summit to yourself for a golden hour photo. Just bring a headtorch for the way down!

4. More Than Just Mountains: What’s Nearby?
If your legs are toast from hiking, there’s plenty more to do around LL41 4UY.
- Mountain Biking at Coed y Brenin: We’re just a stone's throw from the UK’s first dedicated mountain bike centre. Whether you’re a pro or a "wobbler" like me, the trails are world-class.
- Llyn Trawsfynydd: Perfect for a morning stroll or some fishing. It’s peaceful, hauntingly beautiful, and right on our doorstep.
- The Inn Restoration: You might see me and the team working on the old 16th-century Inn. It’s a labour of love after the 2018 fire, but we’re turning it back into the heart of the community. Ask me for a tour if you see me around, I’ll talk your ear off about Grade 2 listed stonework if you let me.
5. Scoring the Best "Snowdon Holiday" Deals
June and July are our busiest months. If you’re looking for a Holiday Wales experience that doesn’t break the bank, try to book midweek. It’s quieter on the roads, quieter on the trails, and you’ll have more of the campsite to yourself.
We’ve specifically designed our pitches to be spacious. Nobody wants to wake up to their neighbour's snoring three inches away. At Rhiw Goch Inn, you get space to breathe.

Why Rhiw Goch Inn?
I moved here because I fell in love with the silence and the scale of the landscape. Whether you’re pitching a tent or reclining in the Lodge, our goal is to give you a slice of that. We’re perfectly positioned on the A470, making us the easiest holiday accommodation to find, yet once you’re here, the rest of the world feels a million miles away.
So, pack the boots, grab the sunscreen (and the raincoat, let’s be honest), and come say hello.
Ready to book your summer escape?
Head over to www.rhiwgochinn.co.uk and grab your spot before the July rush kicks in.
See you on the mountain!
