Morning, everyone. Peter Dive here, reporting live from the terrace of the Rhiw Goch Inn. It’s Monday, the 15th of June, 2026, and I’m currently staring at a sky that’s doing that very specific North Wales thing, shifting from "moody charcoal" to "glinting silver" in the space of a single espresso.

If you’re checking the forecast for Trawsfynydd today, you’ll see we’re looking at a respectable 17°C. It’s cloudy, sure, but that’s what we call "perfect hiking weather" around here. It means you won’t melt while you’re scrambling up a ridge, and the light on the Rhinogydd mountains is currently something out of a cinematic epic.

Lately, it seems like everyone is talking about Trawsfynydd. My inbox is full, the phone is ringing, and even the folks over on Reddit are buzzing about this particular corner of Snowdonia. So, I thought I’d take a few minutes between checking the renovation progress on our 16th-century inn and greeting our campers to give you the lowdown on why this is the place to be for your Snowdon holiday this year.

The Morning Brief: The "Buzz" Around Trawsfynydd

For a long time, people treated the A470 as just a road to get somewhere else. But lately, there’s been a shift. People are realizing that Bronaber and Trawsfynydd aren’t just stops on the way; they are the heart of the action.

Why the sudden fame? Well, I think people are getting a bit tired of the overcrowded "honey-pot" areas of the National Park. Don't get me wrong, I love a busy village as much as the next guy, but there’s something special about waking up at Rhiw Goch Inn (LL41 4UY), looking out over the moorland, and hearing absolutely nothing but a distant sheep and the wind.

We’re perfectly positioned. You can roll out of bed, grab your bike, and be at Coed y Brenin Forest Park in minutes. Or, if you’re feeling ambitious, you can head north and tackle Snowdon itself. We’re the quiet basecamp that offers direct access to the best holiday Wales has to offer.

Camping in the Heart of Snowdonia: What to Expect

I’ve spent a lot of time on our campsite lately, and I’ve got to say, our five electric pitches are looking better than ever. We’ve bordered them with traditional stone walls to give you a bit of that authentic Welsh character while you’re hooking up your campervan.

One question I saw on Reddit recently was: "Is it too wet to camp in Snowdonia in June?"

Listen, I’ll be honest with you, this is Wales. If you want 40-degree heat and bone-dry ground, go to the Sahara. But if you want lush greenery, dramatic skies, and air so fresh it feels like a new pair of lungs, you come here. Our pitches are gravel-based hardstandings, which means even if we get a classic Welsh "refreshing shower," you aren’t going to wake up in a swamp.

For the traditionalists, we’ve got plenty of grass space for tents. There’s nothing quite like a Snowdonia camping trip where you can watch the sun dip behind the Rhinogydd mountains while sitting outside your tent. It’s the kind of peace you just can't buy in the city.

Not a Fan of Canvas? The Lodge Life

I know, I know. Some of you want the mountains but you also want a king-size bed and underfloor heating. I hear you. That’s why we poured so much love into The Lodge House.

When I was renovating the Lodge, I wanted it to feel like a sanctuary. It’s a two-story holiday home that’s basically my ideal version of a Snowdonia Lodge. It has that luxury cast iron bath which is, quite frankly, the only way to recover after a day of mountain biking.

Then there’s The Hideaway Bed. If you’re looking for a romantic spot or just a cozy one-bedroom apartment to crash in after exploring Trawsfynydd, this is it. The sunset views from the Hideaway are, in my completely unbiased opinion, the best in the LL41 area.

Peter’s Reddit Roundup: Answering Your Snowdonia Questions

I spend a bit of time browsing the "North Wales Travel" boards, and there are a few recurring questions that I thought I’d answer from my perspective as a local.

1. "Are the midges bad in June?"

Ah, the age-old question. Look, if you’re near the water or in a sheltered woods on a still day, you might see a few. But here at Rhiw Goch Inn, we’re elevated and often have a nice breeze coming off the mountains. My tip? Bring some repellent just in case, but don't let it stop you from enjoying the sunset.

2. "Where can I find a good pub near Trawsfynydd?"

Well, I’m biased! While we are currently in the process of restoring our 16th-century Grade 2 listed inn into a proper tavern (complete with a games room and more apartments!), the local area has some great spots. But honestly, most of our guests just prefer to grab a beer, sit on our benches, and watch the mountains. There’s no better pub view than the one we have right here.

3. "Is Coed y Brenin worth the trip for families?"

Absolutely. Whether you’re a pro mountain biker or just want a nice woodland walk, it’s a world-class facility right on our doorstep. If you’re staying with us, you’re basically five minutes away from some of the best trails in the UK.

A Bit of History (Because I Love It)

I can’t write a blog post without mentioning the history of this place. The Rhiw Goch Inn site dates back to the 12th century. There is something incredibly grounding about knowing people have been finding refuge and hospitality on this exact spot for nearly a thousand years.

Every time I look at the fire-damaged ruins of the 16th-century inn that we are painstakingly restoring, I’m reminded of the resilience of this landscape. We aren’t just building a business; we’re stewards of a piece of Welsh history. When you stay here, you’re becoming part of that story.

Why Book Your Summer Break Now?

We’re heading into the peak of the season. The days are long: we’re talking nearly 17 hours of daylight right now: which gives you plenty of time to explore the trails, visit the local lakes, or just get lost in a book on the campsite.

If you’re looking for a Snowdon holiday that feels authentic, peaceful, and perfectly located, come and see us in Bronaber. Whether you’re in a campervan, a tent, or tucked up in the luxury of The Lodge, I promise you the views won’t disappoint.
