Morning, folks. Peter Dive here, coming to you from the most comfortable spot in Bronaber. I’m currently sat with a steaming mug of coffee, watching the mist burn off the Rhinogydd mountains from the window of the Rhiw Goch Inn. It’s Wednesday, June 17, 2026, and if you haven’t felt that summer hum in the air yet, you clearly haven’t been to Trawsfynydd lately.

June in Eryri (that’s Snowdonia for the uninitiated) is what I like to call the "sweet spot." The days are so long you practically forget what stars look like until 11 PM, the sheep are looking particularly fluffy, and the trails aren’t yet quite as packed as a London tube carriage. But, as anyone who has spent ten minutes in North Wales knows, summer here doesn’t always mean sunscreen and ice cream, it means being prepared for absolutely everything.

I’ve been spending a lot of time scrolling through Reddit lately (don’t tell Leticia, she thinks I’m doing the accounts), and I’ve seen a mountain of questions from people planning their first Snowdon holiday. Since I basically live and breathe this landscape, I figured I’d put together a masterclass for you lot. Whether you're eyeing up our campsite in Snowdonia or fancy the luxury of a Snowdonia lodge, here is the 101 on mastering summer in the heart of the park.

1. The Great Debate: To Camp or To Lodge?

Every morning, I walk past our gravel pitches and then head into the Lodge House to check on things, and I see the two distinct types of Welsh holidaymakers.

The Happy Campers

If you’re someone who wants to wake up, unzip a tent, and be slapped in the face by the sheer scale of the Welsh wilderness, then our campsite is your kingdom. We’ve got five electric pitches (essential for charging the gadgets so you can brag on Instagram later) and plenty of space for traditional tents.

What I love about June camping here is the light. Because we’re positioned where we are in Bronaber, the sunsets over the Rhinogydd are, and I don’t use this word lightly, ridiculous. You’re sat there with a cold beer, the smell of grass, and a view that people pay thousands for in the Alps. Plus, you’re just a stone’s throw from the A470, making it easy to zip off to your morning hike.

The Lodge Lovers

Then there are those of you who want the mountains but also want a red cast iron bath and underfloor heating. I get it. I really do. The Lodge House is my pride and joy, a renovated two-story slice of heaven. If you’ve spent eight hours trekking up Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), coming back to a king-size bed and a rainfall shower is basically a religious experience.

2. Answering the "Reddit Rituals": Your Summer Questions Answered

I’ve seen your posts. "Is Snowdon too busy in June?" "Will I die if it rains?" "Where can I find a pub that doesn't mind my muddy boots?" Here’s the straight talk from someone who lives at LL41 4UY.

"Is it too crowded?"

Look, Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) is popular for a reason. If you try to park at Pen-y-Pass at 10 AM on a Saturday, you’re going to have a bad time. My advice? Start early or pick a different peak. We have direct access to some of the best "hidden" walks right from the Rhiw Goch Inn. You can wander for hours around Trawsfynydd and see more sheep than people. If you MUST do Snowdon, use the Sherpa’r Wyddfa bus service. It’s a lifesaver.

"What’s the weather actually like?"

It’s June 2026, and today it’s a lovely 18°C. But don't let that fool you. I’ve seen it go from "T-shirt weather" to "Where did the mountain go?" in fifteen minutes. The Reddit crowd is right about one thing: layers are your best friend. Don't be that person hiking in denim jeans. When cotton gets wet, it stays wet, and you’ll be miserable.

"Can I bring my mountain bike?"

Please do! We are incredibly close to Coed y Brenin Forest Park. If you haven't been, it’s basically a playground for mountain bikers. I’ve spent many a Sunday afternoon failing to look cool on those trails. Coming back to the Inn after a day of mud and adrenaline is what a holiday in Wales is all about.

3. The Peter Dive "Don't Forget This" Packing List

If you’re coming to stay at our holiday accommodation in North Wales, don’t turn up empty-handed. Here’s what I consider essential for a June trip:

  • A Power Bank: Trust me, between taking photos of the sunset and using GPS for the trails, your phone battery will die faster than my motivation to go to the gym.
  • Midge Repellent: They aren't as bad as the Scottish ones, but the Welsh midges can be cheeky little buggers in the evenings near the water.
  • Sunscreen AND a Waterproof: It sounds like a contradiction, but that’s Wales for you. You’ll get burnt and soaked in the same afternoon.
  • Good Socks: People spend hundreds on boots and then buy cheap socks. Don't do it. Your feet will thank me later.
  • A Sense of Adventure: We’re a 16th-century site. Things have history here. The walls are thick, the views are wide, and the pace of life is a bit slower. Embrace it.

4. Why Bronaber and Trawsfynydd?

You might be wondering why you should set up base camp here at the Rhiw Goch Inn instead of staying right in the middle of a busy town like Llanberis.

Firstly, the peace. When you’re at our site, you’re in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park, but you’re away from the tourist traps. You get the authentic Welsh experience. Trawsfynydd is steeped in history: from the tragic story of the poet Hedd Wyn to the Roman roads that crisscross the landscape.

Secondly, the location is unbeatable for variety. You’re 20 minutes from the coast, 15 minutes from the big peaks, and 0 minutes away from a great view. I’ve lived in many places, but there’s something about the light hitting the valley in Bronaber that just doesn't happen anywhere else.

5. What's Happening at the Inn?

As many of you know, we’re still hard at work renovating the main 16th-century Grade 2 listed inn. It’s a labour of love, trust me. There are days when I’m covered in dust and questioning my life choices, but then I see the progress on the tavern and the games room, and it’s all worth it.

Until the full tavern is open, our self-catering apartments and campsite are the places to be. We’ve designed them to be a home away from home. Whether you're in The Hideaway watching the sun dip below the horizon or huddling around a campfire, we want you to feel like you belong here.

Peter’s Final Morning Thought

The mountains are calling (cliché, I know, but true), and the weather is holding up. If you're looking for a Snowdonia lodge or a spot to pitch your tent where you can actually hear yourself think, come and see us. June is flying by, and those long summer nights won't last forever.

I’m off to see if I can find where I left my hiking boots. I think the dog might have hidden them again.

Peter Dive
